WINEMAKING

The Marsanne is about complexity and texture, getting ripe fruit flavours to sit harmoniously with these characters.

We harvest the grapes between 13-13.5ºBe. Harvested at night, pressings are kept separate, fined and added back to the wine if deemed of sufficient quality. This provides maximum flavour. The juice is 100% barrel fermented in 25% new and 75% one to two-year-old French oak barriques. Minimal fining is used (skim milk), filtration is also kept to a minimum and bottling carried out as soon as possible

COLOUR

Pale Straw Colour.

AROMA

Lovely balance between lively fresh honeysuckle characters and some light savoury complexity from barrel ferment.

PALATE

Honeysuckle and nectarine fruits fill the front palate and are backed by subtle oak and complexity. The savouriness gives a lovely texture to the mid-palate and is backed by a fine acid structure providing a long clean finish. A wine that drinks well now but will develop into a far more complex wine over the next 10 years or so.

CELLARING

Drink now or cellar for up to 10+ years.

REVIEWS

“Here is a variety that often sneaks under the radar, and yet it consistently makes outstanding wines from this producer. Crisp citrus and honeysuckle on the nose with subtle barrel-fermentation influence for added complexity. Precise and crunchy with a deliciously appealing freshness on the palate. Great for drinking now as an aperitif or, for truly wonderous things, keep in the cellar for up to 10 years."

"The Rhone variety is one of my favourites. It makes a range of different styles from the more generous like this to the more shy and restrained like some of those from Tahbilk. A little oak has been used here to bring savoury characters into the honey and lemon that is part of the variety’s DNA. Drink it as a youngster or cellar.”

— Ray Jordan 93/100

“30% barrel fermented, matured for 3 months in seasoned oak. A shining example of marsanne in WA. It's fine, with a pluming back palate that seems to expand with volumes of flavour as time goes by. It is richly layered and builds upon itself. Ultimately dry and built around a core of acid and phenolics. For lovers of this grape, you must try this. It has a proven track record for ageing gracefully, too.”
